The 160GB hard drive was the largest storage option available in the iPod Classic. Apple used two different versions of 160GB drive in the 6th and 7th generation revisions of the design. It is important you understand which generation iPod Classic you have so that you buy the correct drive.

The 7th generation Classic (Thin) uses the Toshiba MK1634GAL (Single platter 5mm ZIF), this cannot be used in the 6th generation.

The 6th generation Classic (Thick) uses the Samsung HS161JQ (Dual platter 8mm CE-ATA). The Toshiba MK1626GCB is the same specification and can also be used as a replacement for this HDD.
